African businesses are started by micro-entrepreneurs with less than $5,000, yet this group receives less than 5% of formal support, leading to a high failure rate, especially among women and youth.

When Stella Kipande joined TBSN's Business Shule, she was running a small drug shop with thin margins and little room to grow. With guidance from TBSN, she diversified into locally produced liquid soap for schools and households nearby, a new revenue stream that now earns an extra UGX 100,000 a month and has let her employ another member of staff.
